OCTA members and Winter Indoor League participants,
Due to the Ole Miss holiday schedule, the Cotton Bowl, and various individuals taking holiday, we were unable to confirm Gillom Center availability for this week, so I am delaying the season by one week. This will give those of you who haven't paid a chance to do so:
$40 Registration/$10 OCTA dues

Winter League Coordinator

I will finish building an email distribution list for the 72 participants, as well as name the coordinators of the six divisions this week. Again, we plan to play on Tuesdays and Thursdays when available, but as we are working around the Ole Miss teams practice schedule, the days may vary from week to week, I'll send out a schedule by email on Sundays and we will post them to the OCTA web site as well, along with results and standings.
Thank you for your understanding, see you on the courts!
David

OCTA members,
Thank you for your tremendous response to our indoor league, registration for the league is now closed. OCTA has had indoor leagues in the past, but never on scale of the 2009 winter indoor league. We have 72 players registered, perfectly balanced with 36 women and 36 men. We have representation from all age groups and will have women's divisions of 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0, while the men will have divisions of 7.0, 8.0, and 10.0.
With the beginning of the winter indoor league, the Tuesday night Indoor social is now closed. OCTA will be working with Ole Miss to see if we can find an additional day or two that we can offer this to our OCTA membership ($40 per court for two hours of play, paid to Caroline Fair in advance).
I will coordinate the winter league and send out weekly updates, via email, and we will post information on the OCTA web site http://www.oxfordtennis.net/ , I will be assisted by the OCTA board members Joe Bishop, Mike Roberts, Caroline Fair, Pam Grafton, Tommy Clements, and Sarah Hollis, thanks to all of them for their support!
I have received checks from over half of you, but understand that many are traveling. I have the names and payment status of each registered player listed below. You will be required to pay your $40 fee by your first match, or your team will not be scheduled for the second week. No exceptions. And you will not be rescheduled for missed matches, it will simply be a forfeit.
OCTA will have Board members present at each of the first two nights of play, so you have two options, pay when you come to play your first match or mail your check to David Heckel, 803 Birkdale Court, Oxford, MS. 38655 (confirm by email david.heckel@med.ge.com ) . It couldn't be simpler, so let's not have any issues please.
Also, new OCTA memberships are due in January, and to play in the OCTA indoor league, you must be a member, so plan on paying your $10 fee as well. We are working with Ole Miss on scheduling, check the OCTA web site for matches next week, if you haven't heard directly from me prior. Although we would prefer to host the matches on the same nights each week, we have to work with the two Ole Miss men's and women's teams and coaches, who are very supportive of OCTA tennis. So, play may vary from week to week, CHECK the Web site for details. Attached are the official brackets and your payment status. If there are any mistakes, please email me or call me on my cell phone (901) 573-2121.

A few rules of the league:
1. We are going to play indoor matches two (2) nights a week. There will be three (3) matches per court per night.
2. Each match will have 100 minutes total time, including warm up. Thus, we will use a best of three set format with a third set 10 point tiebreaker, or in the case of a marathon match, after 90 minutes, next point ends the match, whoever is ahead is the winner.
3. The first week, OCTA Board Members will monitor the times, but in weeks following, it is your responsibility to monitor time, 100 minutes from the time your court is scheduled to the time the next match is on the court, no exceptions. It will be the responsibility of both the teams on the court and the teams waiting to insure time limits. If the final match goes over and OCTA is charged, that charge will be passed on to the players involved in that match.
4. HOME team is responsible for bringing a new can of balls. Drinks are not provided, and with time restrictions, please no water fountain or bathroom breaks unless absolutely necessary. Bring your own water
.
5. The winning team is responsible for reporting the score to their division coordinator within 48 hours.
6. No fowl language is allowed and appropriate attire is required (shoes, clothing, etc.).
7. Only players are allowed on the courts. There is a visitor seating area in the balcony.
Finally, OCTA is working to enhance tennis in the community, including at the Ole Miss facilities. This is a great opportunity, please leave the courts as good or BETTER than you find them. Pick up your trash and do not cause Ole Miss any reason to regret allowing us access. If you see someone causing damage, litter or harm in general, please report this to me. This will not be tolerated and could result in your removal from the league.
Again, we look forward to a great season. Matches for this week will be posted shortly.
