Monday Night Social – Monday Night Social will be held again on Monday night.
Used Tennis Balls – Do you have a hopper full of used tennis balls that are so dead you can’t use them for practicing serves? Or do you open a new can each time you play regardless? If so, Della Davidson Elementary School will be happy to take those old balls off your hands. Della is looking for used tennis balls to play on the feet of their desks. Andi Cooper will be placing a trash can at the Leslie Courts for you to drop your used balls into to assist them with this so look for it and make your contribution. This is a great way to help Della and a great way to keep them out of the landfill and recycle them.
Jack McCauley Memorial Tennis Tournament – The DeSoto Community Tennis Association will be holding their Jack McCauley Memorial Tennis Tournament from August 27th to September 1. The format will be singles and doubles (no mixed) and will be headquartered at the Olive Branch City Park. Please keep this date in mind so that you might be able to play. An entry form is being added to our website and I will be happy to email one to anyone that is interested.
Oxford Teams at Sectionals – Congratulations to both the Grafton 2.5 and Hickman 5.0 teams on representing our community in Mobile this past week at the Sectional tournament.
Junior Team Advances to Sectionals – In the first year that Oxford has had either an Under 10 or Under 12 Junior Team Tennis program the Under 10 Junior Team has advanced to the USTA Southern Section Junior Team Tennis tournament in Mobile, AL. August 22-24. Debbie Swindoll and Laura Banahan have spent many hours working with our juniors to develop them. Both teams played very well as did our Under 14’s coached by Louis Nash. Please help me to congratulate all of our teams on their accomplishments.
Court Etiquette – I have heard some complaints that I want to forward to everyone. Please keep other players in mind when you are at the courts. Please wait to enter the gates leading onto the courts until people that are already involved in point are finished playing that point. When we enter the court area while a point is going on it can be very distracting the people that are playing. |

Why should you join OCTA? 1. With the renovation of courts at Avent, the OHS team will be using the Leslie Courts. That, combined with a record number of USTA teams, courts are going to be at a premium this year. Your OCTA officers plan to post court availability on the Web Site. Currently, courts are reserved for OHS practice, OHS matches, OPC tennis leagues and practices, and USTA league tennis matches. If you agree that Oxford needs to invest in additional courts, then become a member of OCTA as that is our #1 priority and we need as many voting members as possible. 2. With the limitations of courts in Oxford, the OCTA is working with Ole Miss in a very cooperative venture to allow OCTA members to utilize the Ole Miss Indoor facility on Monday nights. There are three courts for each time. The cost of reserving the courts is $24 per court per time slot, very reasonable. Reservations are being made through OCTA Vice President David Heckel; and your money is due upon reservation and payable to Mike Roberts, OCTA Treasurer. I will notify you either way, by Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. if you have a court or not. Details of this will be provided in an email. We want to make you aware of this great opportunity, provided for the OCTA membership!

OCTA 2008 Dues Oxford Community Tennis Association dues for the year 2008 are now due. Paying dues will allow you to participate in OCTA activities through December 31, 2008. Dues are $10.
